Soft breakfall drill:
First two reps are what NOT to do. Don’t turn away from nage. Keep your front facing his and balance your hip on his to control the rotation. Reach for the ground with the free hand.

Soft breakfall from katadori kotegaeshi:

Slowly building up skills on the soft breakfalls.  Here is an intermediate application from technique using first the kneeling uke doing almost a koshinage, and then nage standing providing a tall bent knee for uke to rotate over.
